Why I wrote Daily Jogger
I developed this simple but useful piece of software for my own purposes because I needed it.
You know those scraps of paper you scribble things to remember on and then promptly lose?
The Daily Jogger is designed to replace them.
You know the situation:
You are in the middle of a complicated modification to a program, have just thought what you could buy your girl (boy) friend for her (his) birthday or remembered that report that the boss wants tomorrow.
It is 5.30 p.m. and you must go home now.
So you grab a scrap of paper, write down a few notes for yourself to jog the old brainbox tomorrow morning, stuff it in your shirt pocket or desk drawer or leave it on your desk where you are bound to see it tomorrow,
and run for the train!
And tomorrow you can't remember where you put the scrap of paper!
There are dozens of beautifully structured, complicated schedule planners with yearly planners, monthly planners, daily planners, prioritised to do lists, project control sheets, reminder pop-ups, contact databases etc., etc.
But I couldn't find a simple, stand alone electronic scrap of paper to meet my unstructured, messy and perhaps more casual way of working.
Sure, I could keep a Notepad text file and that worked O.K. if I remembered where I saved the file to and it is not exactly user friendly.
So I wrote Daily Jogger!

Introduction
Daily
Jogger installs itself into your Startup Group with the command line: "DJOGGER STARTUP" so that it appears automatically when you boot up.
That's when you can read what you typed in yesterday or whenever.
The screen is mainly a simple Text Box which can be edited in the usual way, typing, deleting, copying and even tabbing to produce columns (I'm quite proud of that trick - not easy).
By all means add the pearls of wisdom you thought up in the shower this morning.
Click on Close or preferably just Minimise the window.
Setup also installs a shortcut or icon to itself in its own Group (Daily Jogger) from where you may wish to drag it directly on to your desktop (Windows 95 style), to your Accessories group (Windows 3.1) or, what I prefer, add it to the Microsoft Office Toolbar if you have one.
This
normal shortcut uses the command "DJOGGER" with no parameter.
At the end of the day, or at any time you please, double click on the Normal Shortcut (Icon) and you will see your Daily Jogger again.
Add anything new and delete anything you've finished with.
You will have noticed one or two other features by now.
The Diary View
Click on the "View Diary"
at the bottom of the screen and you can enter diary notes for any day past or
present. You are automatically reminded if there is a note for today or
tomorrow and all days with notes are highlighted anyway.
Alarms
Click on the picture of a red alarm clock at the top of the screen and you can set up to ten neat personal reminder alarms which will jog your memory for those important appointments, so long as Daily Jogger is running or minimised.
Action on Startup
Click on one of the three options to determine how your Daily Jogger will appear when you boot up your computer.
If you select "Minimised" then it will still start and activate any alarms that are due but will be minimised either on the Windows 95 Taskbar or on the Windows 3.1 desktop. If you select "No Start", then Daily Jogger will not execute at all on computer startup.
However, the normal version will always appear when you start it other than at Startup.
Change Background Colour
Click on the small flag to change the window colour from the default grey.
By the way, I have tried to make it the flag of your own country. If your own flag is not there, you will get an icon showing an artists pallet.
If you wish you can change the flag by replacing the small file FLAG999.ICO with an icon file of your choice, or use PALLET1.ICO or PALLET2.ICO which you will find in the DJOGGER Folder. They contain icons depicting artists pallets.
Installation
1. Download one of the .ZIP files and save it into a junk directory on your hard disk such as c:\junk
2. If necessary, download the run-time library VBRUN300.DLL and save it into your WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ directory.
3. Unzip the archive using Winzip, PKunzip or whatever suitable software you have.
4. Run SETUP.EXE and all will be done automatically.
Setup optionally cleans up the temporary files unpacked from the ZIP archive and will also delete the ZIP file if you wish.
5. Enjoy and, if you like it, Register it by clicking on the Register menu item. You have full control of the registration process, just follow the instructions.

Registration Information
Registration is FREE! - just click on the Register menu and,
for a limited time only, you can
register free. All I ask is you email me and let me know what you think of
"Daily Jogger".
-
All features
are fully functional in the special Freeware version. In the unregistered version, however, the "Notepad" is limited to 400 characters instead of 32000 and only one Alarm can be set instead of 10. In addition, a Nag Screen shows for up to 10 seconds on startup.
If You have Problems
I know of two occasional problems which can occur during the first use of Daily Jogger, both of which have the annoying habit
of disappearing once the computer has been rebooted.
If you get either of these problems and they persist, please let me know by email so I can investigate them using a debugging
facility which can be invoked very simply.
1. During the first run, a fatal message "Illegal use of Function", or something similar, appears as soon as Daily Jogger is invoked.
Every time this has happened, the problem has gone away after the first reboot and the software has worked perfectly since.
2. If you click on the little flag to change the background colour and then click Cancel, you may get a message "Cancel Selected"
and the software aborts.
Whenever this has occurred on a customer's machine, re-running Daily Jogger does not repeat the error. Again, please email me if the problem persists.
If you experience any other difficulties, email me and I will be most grateful.
Similarly, any useful suggestions for improvement will be most welcome, my aim is to please.
